The 2025/26 Public Budget Hearing discussions centered around the social sector versus the productivity sector.
The panel discussion which was moderated by Mr. Thom Khanje comprised of different representatives from different stakeholder including; Parliament of Malawi (Social and Community Affairs Committee, Women Caucus, Trade and Industry Cluster and Health Cluster), Economics Association of Malawi and CSO representative
The meeting had an overwhelming attendance of 183 participants (116 male and 67 females) which was beyond the invited participants
The Presentation made by National Planning Commission hinged was an analysis of how the 2025/26 budget proposal is aligning to the goals of MW 2063. The findings of the analysis revealed that the budget had some gaps as some priority areas haven’t been adequately funded, in addition, the budget is not well balanced in terms of the development vs social sector budgets.
