The Lilongwe Child Reference Group under the Malawi Human Rights Commission participated in the commemoration of the Day of the African Child during the capacity building of children where 5 children attended and an additional 30 children during the commemoration. The children’s involvement during the commemoration gave them a great opportunity to express themselves and share their views on issues around planning and budgeting.
On 16th of June, over 800 children attended the main event. The children recommended to the states: to allocate more resources to address the needs of children, provide bursaries to social welfare offices, all children should have access to technology and information, increase investment in social protection and ensure that children participate at all levels in budgeting
The commemoration also gave a chance to the CRG to interact with their fellow children from other districts and other countries on various child rights issues.
