Child-led friendly budget analysis and engagement with the Members of parliament

The coalition supported children to conduct budget analysis and engagement with the committee of social and community affairs. Investing in children has long-term economic benefits for both the country and to children, it is also a way of ensuring that children are able to fully enjoy their rights by being put at the center of decisions in the country as they are the future leaders. During the 2025/2026 CSOs budget analysis, the children were engaged during the budgeting analysis process to identify the critical needs that the government should consider and to build capacity for the children. A total of, 35 children (17 boys, 18 girls) across the country conducted a child friendly 2025/2026 budget analysis.

The analysis was built from the 2024/2025 budget mid-year review engagement with the ministry of finance. Children noted that the 2025/2026 budget considered some of the issues presented during the mid-year review such as: construction of new schools, increase the allocation in child protection programmes, employing new teachers etc.  However, the children requested the government through the social and community affairs parliamentary committee to increase the allocation in education in order to make primary school education free by abolishing school funds and MANEB exams, invest more in inclusive education, increase allocations towards health, child protection and ECD
