The NGO Coalition on Child Rights, (NGO CCR) is a national coalition of Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), sectoral networks and individuals whose broad goal is to entrench child rights programming and governance in Malawi anchored under the four fundamental principles of the rights of the Child: Non-Discrimination; The best interest of the child; Right to life, survival and development or First Call of the Child; and Child Participation within the evolving capacities of the Child. The NGO CCR's mission is to contribute towards the promotion, respect, protection and fulfilment of children's rights through evidence-based Advocacy, Coordination, Capacity building and Research, monitoring and reporting. The NGO CCR is currently the Executive Board member of the Child Rights Network for Southern Africa (CRNSA), which is a SADC regional level body of non-state actors for Child Rights.
NGO CCR was established in 2010 with the main mandate of strengthening the role of local NonGovernmental Organizations (NGOs) and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in the promotion and protection of the rights of children in Malawi. This Strategic Plan provides the pathway for the Coalition from 2024 to 2028, building on the achievements and experiences of the Coalition in its thirteen years of existence, since its establishment in 2010.
The NGO CCR realizes the importance of becoming a learning organization and strategic realignment of its approaches and interventions was seen to be the first step in becoming a more focused and strategic network that is responding to the needs of children in its effort to satisfy its strategic objectives, and existing mission statement and vision of the Coalition.
The NGO CCR's mandate is to strengthen the role of local Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in the promotion and protection of the rights of children in Malawi. The Coalition strives to entrench the concept of child rights programming in all development processes in Malawi. It remains our shared view that the best interest of the Child must be at the center of all developmental decisions. NGO CCR has mandate and legitimacy to strengthen the role of local non-state actors in the promotion, protection and progressive realization of the rights for children, through comprehensive child rights governance and programming placing best interest of the child as centralit
NGO CCR is a national coalition of Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs), Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), sectoral networks and institutions whose broad goal is to entrench child rights programming and governance in Malawi anchored under the four fundamental principles of the rights of the Child: Non-Discrimination; The best interest of the child; Right to life, survival and development or First Call of the Child; and Child Participation within the evolving capacities of the Child. The Coalition is comprised of a Board with a Chairperson appointed by the member CSOs and NGOs.
At the governance level, the Coalition is comprised of the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee. At secretariat level the Coalition is headed by the National Coordinator who is assisted by senior members of staff such as the Finance Manager, Advocacy and Programs Manager and the MEAL Manager
The Annual General Meeting (AGM) is comprised of members and the Board of Directors. It is charged with the mandate for policy formulation and strategic direction. The Board of Directors is an overseeing body holding the ownership of the Coalition on behalf of the public. The Executive Committee is a management structure that provides technical support to secretariat. Currently, the Coalition is supported by two Technical Board Committees, namely: (1) Finance, Audit, Administration Committee; 2) Advocacy, Programs and Partnerships Committee. The three subCommitt e e s are compri s ed of eminent professionals with relevant professional backgrounds.
> NGO CCR is a member and current Treasurer of SADC level Child Rights Network for Southern Africa (CRNSA). NGO CCR has previous years chaired the CRNSA.
